Statue of Ra-hotep and Nofret

The original statue is made of colored limestone, and is considered one the most well-known archaeological pieces. It is also believed that Prince Rahotep was the son of King Sneferu and the brother of King Khufu.

 

About the Statue of Rahotep and Nofret:

  • Rahotep held prestigious titles such as "King's son, of his body," "High Priest of Re at Heliopolis," and “General of the Army.”
  • These statues were discovered in the mastaba tomb of Rahotep, north of the pyramid of Sneferu, in Meidum, dating back to the reign of King Sneferu during the 4th Dynasty.  
  • Rahotep is depicted in reddish-brown, a color traditionally associated with men. Nofret, described as "the one acquainted to the king," is portrayed in a pale yellowish color, typical for women in Ancient Egypt.
  • The Mastaba of Prince Rahotep and his wife Nofret is one of the largest in the Meidum necropolis.
